My House
Sue and I live in a very funky house in the Junction. It tends to get a lot of attention from passersby. Some call it the "enchanted house". Partly because of the detailed scrolling I have added to the front (to replace busted fake shutters) Really, just an extension of all the cut stencil work I have done over the years.
A friend, liking this effect has asked me to design a pattern to top his backyard fence.

First pattern
Ultimately we will need 64 feet, so I figure a template unit of 8 ft repeated 8 times. I have been free artistic license.
OK, design a fence...hmmm....??? So, I figured something organic for the garden. I just sat down to "doodle"
roughly in the proportions needed.
This is my first concept

Second Pattern, basic unit
The first pattern works, but I am wondering if needs more obvious visual rhythm. So I design this basic unit, which I will apply in a repeat pattern.
Second pattern
The second pattern worked out as a repeat pattern.
Smooth to be sure. But ultimately we decided too slick, and that we would with the first pattern.

Pattern cut out
From paper to wood (fir plywood) and a lot of time with my jigsaw.
My friend finds it reminiscent of Rousseau, and I find a little bit of Bosch in it - a healthy collision of sensibilities.
And of course, as always, there was some tweaks from the paper version to this actual artifact. I like the wood cut out better.

If we go with this version, how to paint/stain/preserve it will need to be determined. Personally, I am thinking that all my sanding equipment might be required.
